2018 Phoenix Natural History Muesum

Friday, February 16, 2018

With plans to meet my Arizona cousins Friday for a late lunch, we spent the morning at the Natural History Museum.  It featured a wonderful collection of dinosaurs, a multi level panorama of a mountain waterfall with twice hourly thunder storms providing flash floods, a chance to pan for gold,  a walk through a mine, a replica of the local jail from the wild west era, native pottery and weaving, minerals and meteorite displays.  The only downside was our visit coincided with 3 busloads of very excited (noisy) K-3 youngsters.

And more dinosaurs

We spent the afternoon with a panoramic view of the Phoenix area from my cousin's home on Scottsdale Mountain.  It was nice to have time to spend over a delicious lunch with my Arizona area cousins, who I haven't seen for decades.  My German Grossvater was a Mauer (bricklayer) and Uncle Otto, one of my Dad's older brothers, and his sons were successful builders who followed in his footsteps .  All their homes are show cases of their expertise and talent.  While we got great photos of the view, the house was tucked into the mountain side, hidden from view, designed to blend into the landscape.
